Hey, I wrote a book! As of Aug ‘24, you can’t buy it yet, but I’m told agents need to see I’m capable of doing some marketing for myself. I’ve edited, refined, put this through what I’m told is too many beta readers. Lesson learned: It is much easier to hit hard with fewer POV characters, not a dual storyline with multi-POV and flashbacks all at once. Simplicity allows you to invest more and hit harder.

Jesse Eirini, the main character of Red Demon, also like to hit things hard.

I’ll be kicking off agent queries for Red Demon in either late September or early October ‘24 with the goal of landing the right agent to help me traditionally publish. For readers who may not know how this works, this is the slow route: it could take years before that books hit shelves, minimum one. Even though marketing budgets are no longer a guarantee in traditional publishing, going this route still helps debut authors like me launch and distribute the book more widely, and a quality publishing house assures readers that this is not ai-generated typo-laden trash. But there’s a catch: that publisher owns my literary universe the moment they buy one book. They may opt to cut things off there. Y’all… I got two more books in progress in this universe, four solid outlines and six or seven planned. I will do whatever I have to ensure I execute this launch with everything I got.

In 2024, about 3% of queries land an agent, and about half of those projects will get a book deal. And for the reasons mentioned above, I might not be interested in just any book deal. So Plan B: Invest the $ to professionally launch and market the book myself in late spring ‘25 if I can’t find an option that gives me more hope than fear. Beyond that, I can tell you that based on my current word count and modeled writing speed from Red Demon, I expect to have both the sequel to Red Demon (Science Fantasy) and a true standalone Romantasy in this universe complete by the end of 2025. I will also continue to write a few short stories

for anthologies alongside this if I like their vibe. My first short story is a Andy Weir/ Hitchhiker’s Guidish piece that will be released October 1 2024 as part of the Starship Blunder anthology. Please join my newsletter, which will be where I will announce other major milestones or upcoming publications.
